all right. >>> good evening, everyone, i'm don lemon you're in the cnn newsroom. the next 48 hours may be critical in determining which direction israel's going to take in its conflict with hamas militants. despite 30,000 israeli troops massed at the gaza border and tough talk from both sides, there's still a chance for diplomacy. but time is running out. today was the deadliest day yet. israel says it lobbed 130 rockets into gaza, and some reports say up to 29 palestinians were killed today alone, including ten members of the same family. on the other side of the border, air sirens screamed out in several cities. israel says it intercepted dozens of the nearly 150 rockets hamas fired, including two targeted at tel aviv. their shelling is intense on both sides. cnn's anderson cooper witnessed it firsthand. he's been reporting live from gaza city and earlier i was on the air with anderson when a massive explosion took place nearby. watch what happened. >> in that blast we know ten members of one family, also two media centers -- whoa. that was a rather large explosion. that occurred

talked about on cbs, nbc, cnn, or any of the networks. he just announced that he can do an energy tax tomorrow and not have broken his word. an energy tax, wacking the middle class. he could raise income taxes on people a year from now. which is why what he wanted to do is kick out the bush rates for those making less than 250 -- $250,000 a year. this is where you talk about the dual mandate. we are talking about marginal tax rates, higher income people and successful small businesses. that raises $400 billion -- there are other taxes, in addition to the rate increases he wants to include. over a decade. he has $800 billion he plans to raise from high income people. the size of the debt -- if he gets that, in his budget, assuming he gets the tax hike -- he raises $8 trillion in debt over the next decade. having solved the less than 10% of the problem, he then comes back and says, now, who is going to pay the $8 trillion? that is the energy tax. which, of course, the treasury department -- carvin in e-mails several thousand times -- with arbon in their e-mails 7000 times perry are the

. cnn's reza sayah is in cairo. reza, what's it look like now? >> reporter: joe, it is 11:00 p.m. cairo time. these demonstrators started gathering around in tahrir square about 1:00 p.m. local time. that means they've been going strong for about ten hours. many thought maybe egyptians were worn out, tired of demonstrating after the 2011 revolution, but if you look at tahrir square today, if you look at cairo today, it doesn't seem like it. the demonstrations are continuing. so are clashes. about an hour and a half ago clashes taking place right where we are behind us at the hotel we're staying at. security forces clashing with protesters. a number of protesters ambushed a police vehicle carrying riot police. the police took off. the protesters got ahold of this truck, set it on fire. more security forces came in, shot tear gas and disbursed the protesters. we've seen similar clashes throughout the day. all the demonstrators angry after president morsi declared some controversial decrees that temporarily give him sweeping powers making him the most powerful man in egypt. one of t

chief business correspondent, mr. ali velshi, he's traveling on the cnn election express and also there is john avalon, cnn contributor. hello, gentlemen. listen, you all heard what the president and mr. romney had to say, but, you know, let's talk about the political capital here. who is going to get more political capital out of this with just four days to the election, ali? >> well, hands down president obama because he had the most to lose out of this thing. the issue was if the unemployment rate went up substantially, or more importantly if the 171,000 jobs weren't created. the expectation was for 125,000 jobs. as long as he cleared that, he was going to be okay. barack obama gets more out of it. as you can see, he's not emphasizing the unemployment rate when he's speaking. mitt romney is doing that math that doesn't work thing again. barack obama said that the unemployment was going to be this and now it is this and as a result 9 million people are out of work. that's just not math that works. i don't think either of them are convincing anybody right now. this could have hur
